After months of casting rumors and idle internet speculation, it’s finally official: Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell will be the two male leads in the new season of True Detective. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that season two of HBO’s hit crime anthology series will follow “two police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”

Farrell will be playing Ray Velcoro, one of the cops assigned to the case, and Vaughn will be returning to his dark and dirty indie roots to play career criminal Frank Semyon. It’s been speculated that the third lead will be a female cop, and everyone from Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams to Rosario Dawson and Jessica Biel have been rumored for the plum role.

Showrunner Nic Pizzolatto will be scripting the series again and claimed back in March that this season would be about “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.” Okay. Cool. Cary “Emmy Manbraids” Fukunaga will not be returning to direct season two. Instead, Fast & Furious franchise director Justin Lin will be at the helm. So, I guess we’ll get a lot of cool car chases connected to the occult? Sounds about right.

You can stream season one of True Detective on HBO Go.
