‘Transparent’ Smashes Amazon Viewing Records, Gets Renewed For Season 2

The best reviewed show of this fall TV season can’t be found on network OR cable television. Rather, Transparent—a 10 episode dramedy starring Jeffrey Tambor as a man named Mort that’s transitioning into becoming a woman named Maura—can only be viewed by Amazon Prime Instant Video members. According to a press release issued by Amazon Studios today, the show has become the “most binge-watched TV series” on their service and is “smashing Prime Instant Video records.” These factors led Amazon to renew Transparent for a second season, which will arrive sometime in 2015.

Our own Meghan O’Keefe has recapped every episode of Transparent, a show she described as “funny, warm, heart-breaking, and super smart.” Perhaps even more tellingly, she compares the show quite favorably to Netflix’s buzzed about original hit, Orange Is The New Black. “As much as I like OITNB, I love Transparent so much more. Transparent challenges me, shocks me, awes me, and makes me happy to be alive,” she explains. If that weren’t enough, we also named Transparent as the #1 show you should binge-watch this fall.
