Final Shots: The First ‘Harry Potter’ Spin-Off Will Be Out in 2016

The proposed Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beats & Where to Find Them, is getting more real by the day. First, the planned trilogy secured a director – David Yates, who directed the final four Potter films – and now, a release date (three, to be exact). The studio expects the first film to hit theaters in 2016, followed by sequels in 2018 and 2020 respectively, reports The Verge. The movies, which will be written by J.K. Rowling herself, will focus on Newt Scamander, the author of the Hogwart’s text book the series takes its name from. Producers have yet to cast Newt.
