Family Guy and Gilmore Girls: the two don’t seem to share much in common.  One is a devilishly bawdy cartoon sitcom that’s still running on Fox and the other is a smart, snappy, and emotional ode to a mother and daughter’s relationship that was canceled years ago.  If you were scraping for any connection between the two, you might say it’s that they are both set in New England or that they both have passionate fans.

Or, if you’ve been obsessively binge-watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix with the rest of Team Decider, you could point to season two, episode 21 of Gilmore Girls. It’s called “Lorelai’s Graduation” and you might best remember it as the episode where Rory ditched school (and Lorelai’s titular graduation) to meet Jess in New York City. However, it’s also the episode where a young Seth MacFarlane guest stars and is mean to Lorelai Gilmore.

Yes, Seth MacFarlane was on Gilmore Girls. Who did he play? Someone suspiciously similar to Seth MacFarlane. He’s a New England townie in Lorelai’s graduating class who sneers at the rich and picks cruelly petty fights with his girlfriend. His hatred for all that Lorelai represents is palpable and kind of perfect considering how different MacFarlane’s voice is from Amy Sherman-Palladino’s.

Of course, the whole episode is an absolute delight. You get Emily Gilmore going way overboard in an attempt to show Lorelai she cares, you get important flirting between Rory and Jess, and you get to see Lorelai face the fact that Christopher might have actually moved on with someone else. It’s fantastic. Oh, and it’s crazy that Seth MacFarlane was on this show, right? Stream Gilmore Girls, “Lorelai’s Graduation.”
