Did HBO Just Reveal That A Major ‘Game Of Thrones’ Won’t Die In The Books After All?

It was reported by Deadline that Game of Thrones‘ five biggest stars — Peter DinklageKit Harington, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau — will be paid $300,000 an episode and they have all extended their contracts through the show’s seventh season. Sure, that means that Tyrion, Jon Snow, Cersei, Daenerys, and Jaime are all making Friends money now, but it also might reveal massive spoilers for who lives and who dies in the still unpublished sixth and seventh books.

**GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS AHEAD**

Usually it makes sense to lock down a popular show’s five lead actors through upcoming seasons. However, one of those aforementioned characters is kind of left for dead at the end of the fifth book.

**AGAIN MAJOR GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS AHEAD**

At the end of A Dance With Dragons, our favorite brooding hero, Jon Snow, is betrayed by the Night’s Watch and stabbed multiple times, Julius Caesar-style. George R.R. Martin has left character’s fates up in the air before, but it’s hard to recover from being stabbed dozens of times. Clever fans have concluded that Jon might be brought back from the dead using any number of magical techniques — Melisandre could bring him back using her connection to R’hllor, Jon could activate his warg abilities, he could become an Other, and then there’s a pesky prophecy or two that hints that a great hero will rise from the dead, blah blah blah… Anyway, fans thought they would have to wait until either George R. R. Martin publishes the sixth book or until the show tackles that epic moment to find out if Jon pulls through.

Or do they?

If Kit Harington’s contract has been extended through the seventh season, there’s a strong chance that Jon either won’t be killed or will come back from the dead. Obviously, this contract could be a smokescreen to hide this plot twist, and it’s entirely possible that Game of Thrones show runners might nix Jon’s death from their adaptation. After all, set photos have revealed that Jaime and Bronn are going to Dorne this season and they totally don’t do that in the books…
