Michael Keaton and Benedict Cumberbatch might be considered the front-runners for a Best Actor Oscar, but they’re going to face some tough competition from Eddie Redmayne. The British actor is pounding the pavement in support of his star-making role in The Theory Of Everything. Pundits say that Redmayne soars as young Stephen Hawking and it’s high time that the actor takes the spotlight.

Tess of the D’Urbervilles (2008)

Tess of the D’Urbervilles was one of Thomas Hardy’s most heartbreaking novels, and the story still packs its horrible punch over a century later. In this 2008 version of the tale, Redmayne plays the noble and morally upright Angel Clare — a man who might be too good for the disgraced Tess, but yet not good enough to forgive her for her sins of circumstance. The Pillars Of The Earth (2010)

Every actor in Britain has to appear in at least two lavish miniseries before he or she can break through in Hollywood. Redmayne’s second big miniseries role was in The Pillars Of The Earth. He plays the genius son of a witch who gets involved with the building of a massive cathedral. He also gets to suck face with Hayley Atwell, aka Agent Peggy Carter.

My Week With Marilyn (2011)

Eddie Redmayne finally crossed over with American audiences in a big way in 2011’s Oscar-nominated film, My Week With Marilyn. Redmayne played a young man who gets sucked into the voluptuous blonde’s orbit for one full week.

Les Miserables (2012)

Eddie Redmayne might not have gotten an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the young idealist revolutionary, Marius, in the big budget film adaptation of Les Miserables. However, he did get to sing and sigh and cry a lot. And the film made him popular amongst internet fangirls.
