‘Ant-Man’ Teaser Trailer: Our First Look At Marvel’s First Big Mistake?

Earlier this year, Saturday Night Live spoofed Marvel’s impeccable box office record with a sketch that posited that we would all pay good money to see a movie called Marvel’s Pam. But does that mean that we’re all on board for Marvel’s Ant-Man?

Despite his short stature and goofy name, Ant-Man is one of the most important characters in Marvel lore. The original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, and his wife, The Wasp (aka Janet Van Dyne), were two of the very first Avengers, but they’ve fallen out of favor in recent years due to their lack of razzle dazzle — and because at one point it was revealed that Hank was beating Janet in secret. So, a decade ago, when Marvel announced that they would be making an Ant-Man movie, even fans were tepid at the prospect. Things became worse as the project was repeatedly pushed back and development almost skittered into disaster territory earlier this year when director Edgar Wright infamously exited the project.

Last night, we got our first look at the new film. It stars the endlessly charming Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, a thief who takes the mantle of Ant-Man from the aging Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). While we have no doubt that Marvel will hit it out of the park once more, we have to say that we are bit worried that Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang doesn’t seem all that excited to be Ant-Man in the first place. Come on, dude, sell it a little!

Ant-Man hits theaters July 17, 2015.
