Bill Cosby Elicits Sympathy After Ambush Attack (VIDEO)

The Bill Cosby controversy will not let up. Months after American comic Hannibal Buress called Cosby out for being a “rapist,” now a Canadian comic is trying to insert himself into the fray.

Bill Cosby performed his first comedy show of 2015 last night in Kitchener, Ontario. Protesters heckled him from outside Kitchener’s Centre in the Square, and as the comic left the venue, a comedian named Abdul Butt ambushed him on camera. Butt is a writer and correspondent for a CBC news satire show called This Hour has 22 Minutes, which is kind of like The Daily Show, but Canadian.  Butt thought it would be fun to lie in wait for Cosby outside the stage door, congratulate him on the show, and then bring up the rape allegations.

Butt cried out at Cosby, “Hey, Bill, congratulations on your first show in 2015! Way to start the year off with a bang!” and then added, “Hope it was consensual this time, though, Billy.” Cosby did not respond.

What makes the whole video even more uncomfortable is that after Cosby gets in his car, Butt smiles at the camera and says proudly, “Ah! Joke raped! Old Billy got joke raped.” The height of class from someone whose last name is “Butt.”

Don’t get it twisted, we’re in no way defending Cosby (suffice to say we think he’s a huge creep). It’s just that the combination of this Canadian comic’s smug mannerisms and patently unfunny approach works in complete contrast to its intent. Namely, that Cosby ends up looking almost sympathetic here, which is quite an accomplishment in and of itself.
