Sex Box

WE tv, home to top trash television including Kendra on Top, Bridezillas, and its phenomenally bad spin-offs, Marriage Boot Camp and Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars, stuns again with a preview for their upcoming unscripted series, Sex Box.

True to its title, Sex Box (spotted on Flavorwire), features average couples having sex in a box then discussing their sex life post-coitus. The show adds to WE’s trashy, but brilliant, couples therapy reality line-up that’s slowly growing — and growing strong. Marriage Boot Camp, Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars, and now Sex Box focus on relationships, new and old, that are starving for something that’s missing — whether it be intimacy, honesty, or trust. With a universal diagnosis for “lack of communication,” the hosts of these shows often press their participants to be as open as emotionally possible, which, of course, makes for some juicy drama and legendary confessions, especially on Marriage Boot Camp. From the Sex Box preview, it looks like WE’s new series will have a similar mission, which will make guilty pleasure-watchers rejoice!

It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what WE, a women’s entertainment channel under the umbrella of AMC Networks, is doing so right these days, but acquiring a successful British reality series is rising to the top of the list. Sex Box was originally born in the UK and has been a smash hit across the pond. Could it be a go-to guilty-pleasure here in the states as well? Sex Box premieres on Friday, February 27th at 10 PM.
