The Oscars are this Sunday and you don’t need a television set to watch the show! Nope! You can totally stream Hollywood’s biggest night on your computer or mobile device (aka tablet or smartphone). You just need access to the Internet and the WATCH ABC app, and you can stream the Oscars live for free!
Of course, there are a few (minor) catches…
If you want to live stream the Oscars on the WATCH ABC app, you will have to download it and sign in. This means you’ll have to provide your cable provider, User ID, and password to prove that you’re already (sigh) paying for cable and have total legal rights to ABC. (Cordcutting hack: If someone has given you their HBO Go password to watch Game of Thrones and Girls, that should also get you into any basic cable live stream. Shh…)
Also, ABC is only letting you live stream the Oscars in Chicago, Fresno, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham and San Francisco. Why? Well, a lot of these streaming apps are only available in select markets. Sorry, Boston!
If you do have access to WATCH ABC, you can also stream the after show special, Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Oscars, and you can relive the big event anytime you want between February 23, 2015 and February 25, 2015.
However, there is something you can totally stream for free even if you don’t have log in access to WATCH ABC: “The Oscars Backstage.”
ABC is providing exclusive live backstage footage during the awards show. They’ll be covering the red carpet and what’s going on behind-the-scenes. Oh, and you don’t have to have a “sign in” to stream Oscars Backstage on WATCH ABC app or on abc.com. Just visit the app or abc.com and select the “watch live” section. Boom! Now you know who is gossiping backstage! Done!
