Netflix To Reboot ‘Inspector Gadget,’ ‘Danger Mouse,’ And More!

Thanks to Netflix, your kids can now spend hours watching the same shows you watched as a kid — except not. The streaming service announced today that they are rebooting the classic children’s animated series Inspector Gadget and Danger Mouse.

Anyone who grew up in the ’80s or ’90s will be familiar with Inspector Gadget. The popular adventure series followed a bumbling bionic detective and his brainy niece as they faced off against the machinations of the evil Dr. Claw. The cartoon was later adapted into a live action film starring Matthew Broderick. Netflix’s version will be computer animated and Inspector Gadget’s famous gadgets will be updated to reflect modern tech. The 26-episode series debuts some time next month.

Netflix is also updating the classic cartoon Danger Mouse. Danger Mouse, of course, was a satire of British spy films and featured a number of hilarious anthropomorphic characters. Esteemed British comedian Stephen Fry has been tapped to voice  Colonel K. Danger Mouse is currently in production will debut Spring 2006.

In addition to these two reboots, Netflix has also acquired three other new shows. There’s the Canadian live action series, Some Assembly Required, which follows a teen who inherits a toy factory. Some Assembly Required will debut this summer. Then there’s Botternsnikes & Gumbles, an computer animated comedy series based on a popular book series that’s due out next Spring. Finally, Netflix will premiere Super 4, an animated series based on Playmobil toys, this April.

This announcement comes on the heels of the premiere of Richie Rich, Netflix’s live action revamping of the classic children’s series. Netflix also has a few other reboots like Magic School BusPopples and Care Bears in the pipeline. So what was old is now new again, and what was once for the young will be skewed for new young people.
