Why You Won’t Be Able To Binge-Watch Jennette McCurdy’s New Netflix Show

Were you looking forward to binge-watching all of Sam & Cat star Jennette McCurdy‘s new Netflix drama, Between, when it debuts on May 21? Well, you’re going to have to wait a while to do that. It looks like Netflix is finally fiddling with its tried and true model of dumping a whole season at a time. Between will be the platform’s first foray into releasing original episodes on a weekly schedule.

Why the change? Well, as Alan Sepinwall points out over at HitFix, Between is the first show that Netflix is co-producing with Canadian network TV network City and Showmi, aka “Canada’s Netflix.” Those two production companies have a weekly release schedule, so Netflix is most likely releasing Between in weekly installments instead of all at once as a part of compromise. Many people have speculated that some shows on Netflix could benefit from a weekly installment plan. If Between‘s release schedule is a success, then perhaps Netflix will decide to implement it for other programs.

If you can’t wait until May 21 for a look at Between, McCurdy shared the series’ first teaser trailer on her twitter account this morning. The show follows the residents of Pretty Lake — a small town struck down by a mysterious plague that kills everyone over the age of 21. So, yes, I would be dead.
