Final Shots: Netflix’s Offers Up Biggest Peek of Grim and Gritty ‘Daredevil’ Yet

With just a month to go until its April 10 debut, Netflix has offered up its most substantial taste of its Daredevil yet. The two-minutes longer trailer does all it can to distance the show — Netflix’s first of a handful of planned collaborations with Marvel — from its cinematic brethren. Whereas The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy movies go for a vibrant and (for the most part) family-friendly vibe, the upcoming series about blind lawyer-turned-superhero Matt Murdock (played by Charlie Cox) looks anything but colorful or kid appropriate (it packs a TV-MA rating). Instead it looks as if showrunner Steven DeKnight is going for a grim and gritty tone that’s equal parts Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Frank Miller’s revered run on the Daredevil comics in the ’80s. Makes sense, since Steven DeKnight has gone out of his way to compare the show to legendary crime movies and TV shows like Dog Day Afternoon and The Wire.
