Last Night’s Episode Of ‘Jeopardy’ Was An Epic And Total Disaster

A tournament of champions this was not. As Uproxx and Jezebel previously pointed out, last night marked one of the worst, utterly unwatchable episodes of Jeopardy in recent history. After two cringe-worthy rounds of wrong answer after wrong answer, two of the three contestants, Brad and Stephanie, finished in the negative (Stephanie sporting a cool -$6,800) and couldn’t compete in the Final Jeopardy round. But as if that wasn’t painful enough to sit through, the last man standing — in this case reigning “champion,” Kristin — wrote down an incorrect answer and, even more bizarrely, actually wagered money.

Our ever-so-patient host Alex Trebek tried to make light of the situation but couldn’t contain himself, admitting it was “not one of our greatest days.” What Alex failed to acknowledge, however, is that he may very well have jinxed the contestants at the very start of the episode when he said it “makes him happy” when contestants answer “a lot of questions correctly.” But like a bat out of hell, all three players began ringing in and wildly guessing words and phrases that were not only way off topic but, in some cases, were previously mentioned in the clue! (Dear Stephanie: a clue containing the word “metaphor” probably won’t have the answer “metaphorically.”) Jeopardy has been a mixed bag of emotional and impulsive contestants lately, but last night takes the cake for one of the worst episodes in a long time.
