The Tease: The Top 5 Trailers Of The Week

Ever go to the movies and feel like you’re shilling out $15 to watch 30 minutes of awesome trailers and one so-so movie? We live in a world where trailers —teasers, full length and otherwise!— can sometimes be more entertaining than the films and shows they’re promoting. Trailers are short, sweet, and great at selling a story. So why not celebrate trailers on their own? And why pay money for a movie ticket when you can catch your favorite teasers on YouTube anytime — and as many times — as you want?

All of which is to say WELCOME to Decider’s new weekly trailer round up, The Tease. These are the five best trailers, teasers, and TV spots of the week that we think are guaranteed to get you hyped up to see a new flick. This week, the best trailers to hit the internet are for big action flicks, a buzz-worthy indies, and a hotly-anticipated John Green adaptation.

'Furious 7' International Trailer 2

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FhAHe9Uz1s]

The Fast and the Furious franchise is among the most beloved properties in the entire world, so it makes sense that its most recent international trailer is full of crazy chase scenes and emotionally-manipulative images. Fans will probably have to mourn the loss of Paul Walker all over again when they flock to the theater for this action juggernaut, but the trailer is also teasing that none of Dom’s crew is safe — least of all Dom.

Furious 7 is scheduled for an April 3 release.

'Ex Machina' Trailer 2

You might not know the name Alex Garland, but he’s the brilliantly twisted mind behind Danny Boyle’s The Beach, Sunshine, and 28 Days Later. Now, he’s a writer and a director. Ex Machina might look like your typical “sexy robot turns on her human creators” tale, but the buzz out of SXSW is that it’s a stellar and surprising thriller. This trailer gives us some tantalizing clues as to how warped the film might get and teases fantastic performances from up-and-comers Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, and Alicia Vikander.

Ex Machina is scheduled for an April 10, 2015 release.

'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' TV Spot 2

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WM915QsOyI]

Is it May 1 yet? The Avengers: Age of Ultron hype machine is roaring into full gear. This new television spot gives us hard core Marvel fans even more action (Whoa! Cap threw a motorcycle!) and we get to finally hear what Quicksilver’s “Sokovian” accent sounds like. However, the most intriguing part of the commercial is that it confirms that Age of Ultron will be laying the foundation for the upcoming Captain America: Civil War film. The spot opens with Tony Stark providing ample snark over the fact that while he’s paying for the Avengers, Captain America is their leader. Methinks I hear some bitterness from the billionaire playboy?

The Avengers: Age of Ultron is scheduled for a May 1, 2015 release.

'Paper Towns' Trailer 1

The Fault In Our Stars scribe John Green is the king of young adult fiction right now, so it should come as no surprise that another one of his popular books has been made into a film. Paper Towns tells the story of your average teenaged nice guy who falls in love with the spirited, enigmatic, and MPDG-eqsue girl across the street. The twist? After spending a deliriously fun night together pranking her ex-boyfriend, the elusive Margo Roth Spiegelman becomes even more elusive; she straight up disappears. Nat Wolff graduates from being a John Green sidekick to a John Green leading man, and international supermodel Cara Delevingne is going to try her hand at movie stardom.

Paper Towns is scheduled for a July 24, 2015 release.

'Mad Max: Fury Road' Japanese Trailer

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu1coohd-6M&feature=youtu.be]

George Miller has been slaving away for years on his bombastic reinterpretation of his own Mad Max films and it looks like all his hard work has paid off. This international trailer (complete with confusing Japanese subtitles) looks bad ass. We watch Tom Hardy smolder, Charlize Theron take charge, and the most glorious technicolor explosions ever caught onscreen. Decider’s own fearless leader, Mark Graham, watched this and declared that Mad Max: Fury Road‘s release date was going “to be the best day of my life.” We awkwardly reminded him that he has a child.

Mad Max: Fury Road is scheduled for a May 15, 2015 release.

Also Worth the Tease:

The trailer for Pixels pits Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Peter Dinklage versus aliens who are invading Earth in the guise of classic video games. The third trailer for Insidious: Chapter 3 gives us more clues as to the actual plot of this horror film sequel. Netflix released a new “motion poster” for Daredevil that gives fans a blurry tease of the vigilante’s costume in a grimy puddle. Finally, the trailer for Max, a movie about a war dog with PTSD, promises to tug on all of your all-American heartstrings.
