17 New ‘Arrested Development’ Episodes Confirmed — But Where Will The Bluths End Up?

Arrested Development

This is the story of a wandering sitcom that’s had trouble finding a permanent home since its 2003 debut. The Arrested Development saga continues after news that 17 new episodes of the cult comedy series have been confirmed by co-executive producer, Brian Grazer. In an interview with Bill Simmons of Grantland, Grazer simply announced, “We’re gonna do another 17 episodes.” Though it’s easy to assume the episodes will be part of another season from the now Netflix “Semi” Original series (the show was cancelled by Fox back in 2006), Grazer never confirms nor denies the Bluths will make their way back to the streaming giant.

It’s highly likely the platform will welcome a new season of Arrested Development, especially since series creator Mitchell Hurwitz has a multi-year deal with Netflix, albeit for a completely different show. The initial Netflix-backed reboot received mixed reviews after changing up its format to accompany cast scheduling conflicts, hence the episode-per-character style. It’s possible scheduling conflicts between Jeffery Tambor, Jessica Walter, and Tony Hale could cause development issues as all three are regular cast members of currently running series (Transparent, Archer, and Veep, respectively). Grazer doesn’t offer much more information about the new episodes in the interview below (announcement happens at around 24 minutes), but perhaps it’s too early to tell where the series will end up if it’s going anywhere at all.
