Retro-Style ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ Trailer Stars Christopher Reeve and Adam West

Though it received an “official” release today, the trailer for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice leaked online Friday morning, giving all us a sneak peak at Ben Affleck as Batman. And, boy, it was somethin’, huh? (Apparently Batman’s new voice sounds a lot like Bain from The Dark Knight Rises?) And while the super dark and super serious trailer teased a world that is firmly anti-Superman, a lot of people saw the trailer as humorless despite how silly the premise of the anticipated film actually is.

That’s the thing about modern comic book movies these days: they make grand attempts at realism and grit — The Avengers and other Marvel properties being the blessed exception to the rule. Which is funny, when you think about it, as these are movies about grown men who are flying around and fighting crime while wearing masks and tights. While Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder’s DC Comics adaptations have focused on the seriously un-fun aspects of the superhero genre, at least one fan, Bobby Burns, reimagined what Batman V Superman would look like if the Snyder went with a more classic approach.

Mashing up the dialogue from the new trailer with images from the Christopher Reeve-starring Superman and the Adam West-starring Batman: The Movie, the trailer below shows how ridiculous the new movie could be with the vintage superhero aesthetics. But, really, wouldn’t embracing the silliness be a little more fun?
