Nothing short of a 4/20 miracle, HBO has just announced they have acquired the next season of High Maintenance, the hit web series from cannabis power couple Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair. Since its 2013 Tumblr release, the tiny series has been referred to as the “best show not on TV” before getting picked up as Vimeo’s first original series.

Released in “cycles” of six episodes, the anthology series follows a day-in-the-life of your average weed-smoking New Yorkers of all ages and backgrounds. Each episode is centralized around a different character, but all are connected by their easy-going, dutiful dealer, known as “The Guy” (played by Sinclair). After its success via Tumblr, within the festival circuit, and now on Vimeo, it was only a matter of time before a the best show not on TV was gobbled up by TV, particularly by a cable company with deeper pockets than Vimeo, which is just now moving into original series territory.

Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor congratulated Blichfeld and Sinclair on their most recent success: “We’re very excited for Ben and Katja and proud to have launched High Maintenance as Vimeo’s first original series. For HBO to pick up the next season is a testament to this incredible show and we look forward to continuing to support it.”

Now that the series is owned by the most prestigious premium cable company in entertainment, it will be interesting to see if High Maintenance, whose recent episodes range anywhere from eleven to eighteen minutes, will expand their running time to a more standard length and continue to feature up-and-coming comedians and performers. As of yet, there is no date for when the new season will get underway, but in the meantime, you can catch up on Vimeo.
