At Last! ‘Seinfeld’ Will Be Streaming On Hulu!

Comedy nerds have reason to rejoice this morning: it looks like all 180 episodes of Seinfeld will soon be available to stream on Hulu.

Technically, you can already stream Seinfeld. Crackle offers curated samplings of the groundbreaking “show about nothing” for free, but you can only watch eight episodes per month and you have no choice in which episodes are available for viewing. However, it looks like Hulu has finally made a deal that will enable its subscribers to stream all the episodes of Seinfeld whenever they want.

Variety is reporting that Hulu spend upwards of $1 million per episode. That means that they possibly paid a total of $180 million for the streaming rights to the entire Seinfeld canon. The astronomical deal is just the latest sign that streaming is the new syndication. Netflix reportedly paid $500,000 per episode of Friends. It’s an enormous sum, but some industry insiders say the price tag is worth it since these classic sitcoms can generate billions of dollars in syndicated ad revenue.

Hulu is expected to announce their acquisition of all 180 episodes of Seinfeld at today’s upfront presentation. If you want to watch Seinfeld on Crackle one last time, click here. The theme this month is “Seinfeld in Cars.”
