It’s almost Sunday, which means that before Game of Thrones starts, we have the privilege of watching the trailer for Ballers. Again. No, we don’t care if it’s been the same minute-long romp for three weeks straight, because every time we hit replay (football pun very much intended), we get even more excited to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson throw some pigskin and strut like a boss.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15lfITfxMDI]Ballers, premiering on HBO June 21 (the same eve as True Detective Season Two and new Jack Black comedy The Brink), follows Spencer Strassmore (Johnson), a retired football star ventures into the world of financial advisement. Produced by The Rock himself, along with Pain & Gain co-star Mark Wahlberg, Ballers oozes Entourage quality, but thanks to co-producer and Friday Night Lights creator Peter Berg, it packs the punch of a high-octane sports series. Here are five other reasons we can’t wait for June.
Fist bumps galore, bro.
By the amount of fists bumped in the first trailer, it’s clear that deals upon deals are being made. Which means money is changing hands. Which guarantees some juicy drama.
Sexy people doing sexy things.
In addition to The Rock, there are a plethora of sexy people to reel us in. Sure, Game of Thones offers us the nudity we crave on a Sunday night. Sure, we’re looking forward to that epic orgy coming up on True Detective. But we miss that romp Entourage allowed us to indulge in all those years ago — this is HBO after all.
Football, football, and more football.
Thank goodness Peter Berg is on the bill because we’re in for a treat when it comes to the football flashbacks a la Fright Night Lights style.

There are many egos sure to populate the series. From what we’ve seen in the trailer, it looks like there is certainly conflict afoot.
All of this.
Yup, just all of it. Ballers looks like it might be the perfect summer series we never knew we needed, that has a little bit of everything from good-looking people, soapy drama, and an HBO budget to make it over-the-top fun.
