5 Things To Watch If You’re Already Missing ‘Mad Men’

Where to Stream:

Mad Men

Powered by Reelgood

After seven long seasons, Mad Men bid its final farewell last night. The show was as much a cultural milestone as it was a pop culture obsession, and while it was set in the past, its success paved the way for the 21st century’s Golden Age of Television. So, we get it if you’re at a loss for what to watch next.

Here are four amazing shows (and one fantastically stylish film) that you can kick back and stream tonight. Might we recommend pairing each of these with a Coke?

If You Love The Retro Workplace Angle… Try 'Manhattan'

Mad Men peeled back the world of 1960s advertising. We watched tempers flare and egos explode over copy writing, pitch meetings, and business dinners. If you’re itching to watch more old school office drama, might we suggest Manhattan? The critically-acclaimed series takes place a few decades early and demystifies the men and women of the Manhattan Project. They not only have to work together, but they have to live together, and work in secret on an atomic bomb together. It’s a little bit more high stakes than whether or not Don and Peggy will be able to sell a pitch for pantyhose. [Watch Manhattan]

If You Lusted After The Retro Hookup Culture… Watch 'Masters of Sex'

From the very start, a huge part of Mad Men‘s allure was the way that the show turned what had been traditionally considered a staid time in American history and turned it into a non-stop sex party. No, really. There was a lot of sex on Mad Men. It was set in a time when the pill was popping and mistresses were commonplace. If you want to delve more into the origins of America’s sexual revolution, check out Masters of Sex. The series focuses on Masters and Johnson’s groundbreaking research into human sexuality — and the drama the sex studies sparked. [Where to Stream Masters of Sex]

If You’re Going To Miss Peggy Olsen Kicking Ass… Check Out 'Top Of The Lake'

Was Don Draper the true hero of Mad Men? Or was it the ever-plucky, always-evolving, completely indefatigable Peggy Olsen? Well, you know that we think Peggy’s the show’s ultimate MVP, and if you are anxious to watch Elisabeth Moss kick more ass, then you’ve got to check out Top of the Lake. The moody Australian crime thriller stars Moss as a detective who must return to her small hometown to investigate the death of a pregnant tween. The show is dark and twisted and Moss gives yet another dazzling performance. [Watch Top Of The Lake]

If You Were Watching For The Slick ‘60s Style…Watch 'A Single Man'

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Mad Men was a brilliantly written and exquisitely acted show, but it was also a trend-setter in the world of fashion. The show’s success saw skirt hems go down and proper suiting come back. If you’re one of the millions who tuned in just to look at all the pretty clothes and ornate hairstyles, then why not check out Tom Ford’s wonderful film, A Single Man. The film is a somber look at the same time period and is bursting with gorgeous style. Why? Well, because Tom Ford is best known for being one of the world’s leading fashion designers. If You Are Completely Sick And Tired Of Watching Men Dominate Period Dramas…You Need To See 'Call The Midwife'

Are you actually one of the people who found themselves fatigued by all the “mad men” on Mad Men? The misogyny was indeed unrelenting up until the final episode. So, maybe you’re in the mood to watch a period piece that gives center stage to women. Call The Midwife is a brilliant show about a group of midwives in 1950s London. Because of the particularly “feminine” nature of the work, it’s also a show that focuses almost exclusively on the trials and triumphs of women. [Watch Call The Midwife]
