What’s The Deal With ‘Between’?: Netflix’s First Non Binge-Watch

Where to Stream:

Between

New Netflix Original drama Between airs tomorrow and features former Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy as Wiley, a pregnant high school senior and resident of Pretty Lake, a small town becoming increasingly smaller after a mysterious virus wipes out the population of those over the age of 21.

In addition to its unique plot, Between Netflix is also changing up their release strategy for this particular series — airing all six episodes on a weekly basis rather than all at once. So, very much like “regular” TV, the series airs tomorrow at 8:30 PM/PT and then every Thursday at the same time thereafter. Though this varying way of watching streaming-only series seems new to us, this isn’t anything out of the ordinary for Netflix. When we reached out to Netflix as to why they’re shaking things up for Between, a representative explained that Netflix subscribers outside of the United States are used to watching the services’ streaming-only series on a weekly basis — this is just the first time it’s happening in our neck of the woods. “Netflix wants to give shows to its members as quickly as they can. Between is a series that will air on linear TV in Canada,” a representative explained, “And then Netflix will be bringing it to the service the same day as Canada’s broadcast.” There is no word as to which future Netflix original series will be given the same treatment or if this has anything to do with ratings experiments.

You can watch Between on Netflix beginning tomorrow at 8:30 PM/PT, 11:30 PM/ET and then every Thursday evening at the same time.
