Final Shots: Showtime Set To Launch Their Own Standalone Streaming Service

Hot on the heels of HBO Now’s successful launch in April, Showtime announced earlier today that they too are planning on cutting out the necessity of the cable middleman and going straight to consumers with their product. Set to launch in July in tandem with their new seasons of Masters Of Sex and Ray Donovan, Showtime is launching a new service called—wait for it—Showtime (!) on Apple TV for the low price of $10.99 a month. (If you’re keeping score at home, HBO Now is currently $14.99/mo.) In a statement, CBS CEO Les “Moonvest” Moonves relayed that “Going over-the-top means Showtime will be much more accessible to tens of millions of potential new subscribers.” True, but does Showtime have enough quality content to attract “millions of potential new subscribers”? We shall see!
