Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith is the latest actor to join Netflix’s ever-growing stable of talent. The British actor will star alongside Claire Foy and John Lithgow in The Crown, reports Variety. Based on The Queen writer Peter Morgan’s play The Audience, the 10-episode series about Queen Elizabeth II and the “intrigues, romances and machinations” that shaped post-war Britain. Foy will play the queen, while Smith and Lithgow will portray Philip Mountbatten and Winston Churchill, respectively. The Crown is set to premiere on the streaming service next year.
