Andy Taylor Whistles His Way To The #BestDadEver Championship

Happy Father’s Day, everyone! Over the last dozen days, over 35,000 votes were cast in Decider’s inaugural #BestDadEver bracket, a competition among 32 of the most famous fathers in television history. And the winner, according to YOUR votes, is Andy Griffith, who famously portrayed Sheriff Andy Taylor in The Andy Griffith Show.

Andy Taylor was an unlikely victor, mainly because he started the tournament as a #8 seed taking on one of the greatest TV dads of all-time, #1 seed Mike Brady (The Brady Bunch), in the Thoughtful Dads bracket. Taylor managed to capture 58.8% of the votes during that first round, which helped propel him to subsequent victories over Steven Keaton (Family Ties), Ward Cleaver (Leave It To Beaver), Peter Griffin (Family Ties), and Tim Taylor (Home Improvement).

The finale against Tim Taylor turned out to be a rout. Andy Taylor scored a whopping 78.1% of the votes against the overmatched Tool Time host, proving once and for all that they really don’t make ’em like the used to. Guess there’s really only one thing we can do to celebrate — whistle our way down to the fishing hole!
