It’s The Last Chance For These Actors To Pick Up Emmy Gold

With the Emmy nominations nearly upon us, plenty of Hollywood stars are crossing their fingers and hoping for nominations. But a select few actors are likely to feel particularly on edge in the next several hours, as this year marks their final chance to pick up nominations for their long-running series that met their ends this season. From previous winners and nominees to dark horse picks who haven’t yet received Emmy recognition, here’s a look at ten actors who might get their last chance at taking home the coveted award — or, at the very least, earn that final nod — ranked from the long shots to the most likely.

Courteney Cox, 'Cougar Town'

The Friends alum has never received an Emmy nomination for her TV work, nor has her long-running cult hit Cougar Town, which premiered on ABC in 2009 and moved to TBS in 2013. While it may seem too low-brow for Emmy voters (the series’ terrible name certainly didn’t help its chances), it’s a beloved comedy. Could it finally be recognized in its last year of eligibility? [Where to stream Cougar Town]

Katey Sagal, 'Sons of Anarchy'

FX’s hit series about a gang of bikers is gritty and violent, and its final season broke ratings records for the network. Despite its critical acclaim and popularity, the series has never received an Emmy nomination. Katey Sagal, who previously won a Golden Globe for her role as matriarch Gemma Teller Morrow, stands out in an otherwise macho cast of characters, and her husband, the show’s creator Kurt Sutter, gave her particularly great material to work with this season. [Where to stream Sons of Anarchy]

Jeff Daniels, 'The Newsroom'

Jeff Daniels picked up two Emmy nominations for Aaron Sorkin’s HBO drama for playing News Night anchor Will McAvoy (he won for the show’s first season), and it won’t be too shocking if he receives his third consecutive nod. But will he win? It’s a long shot, considering the third and final season’s limited critical praise. [Where to stream The Newsroom]

Jessica Lange, 'American Horror Story: Freak Show'

Jessica Lange already won for the horror anthology series’ first and third seasons, and received a nomination for its second. With her role in the fourth season being her swan song (quite literally: her final season on the show, which will continue without her, saw her crooning David Bowie and Lana Del Rey), she’s certainly a shoo-in for a nomination. But will she take home another Emmy? [Where to stream American Horror Story: Freak Show]

Timothy Olyphant, 'Justified'

Timothy Olyphant previously received a nomination in 2011 for his portrayal of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens on FX’s beloved crime drama. With this being his last shot, will Emmy voters give him another nod? More impressively, can he squeeze out the competition to take home a trophy of his own? [Where to stream Justified]

5

Steve Buscemi, 'Boardwalk Empire'

The seasoned actor has received two Emmy noms for his portrayal of the crooked Enoch “Nucky” Thompson in Martin Scorcese’s Prohibition-era drama. While his colleagues Tim Van Patten and Bobby Cannavale have both won Emmys for their work on the show, Steve Buscemi has gone home empty handed. Maybe this year will be his best shot at Emmy gold. [Where to stream Boardwalk Empire]

Jon Cryer, 'Two and a Half Men'

During the comedy series’ 12-season run, Jon Cryer has been nominated a whopping seven times and took home an Emmy twice. Considering the trials and tribulations throughout the show’s run, Cryer deserves an award simply for sticking around. A nomination wouldn’t be surprising, but The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons is always tough competition. [Where to stream Two and a Half Men]

3

Edie Falco, 'Nurse Jackie'

Emmy favorite Edie Falco has received a staggering eleven nominations and took home four Emmys, including one previously for her pill-popping ER nurse Jackie Peyton. Considering the dramedy’s final season recently wrapped, it’ll be her last chance to pick up another nomination for her role. Although if she doesn’t win, odds are we’ll see her again considering her prolific acting career. [Where to stream Nurse Jackie]

2

Amy Poehler, 'Parks and Recreation'

Amy Poehler has received eleven nominations across her career as both an actor, an awards show show, and as a writer. What’s more surprising, however, is that she’s never won an award, not even for her pitch-perfect portrayal of the ambitious and wacky Leslie Knope. Her toughest competition, per usual, is Veep‘s Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who has taken home the award three years in a row. Is it finally Poehler’s turn to bask in that Emmys glow? [Where to stream Parks and Recreation]

Jon Hamm, 'Mad Men'

Jon Hamm has been nominated for his portrayal of ad man Don Draper every single year since Mad Men premiered on AMC in 2007. It’s his last — and best — shot at taking home a trophy for this critically beloved audience favorite. It’s definitely Hamm’s trophy to lose, and without a Bryan Cranston standing in his way, he’s likely to finally win. [Where to stream Mad Men]
