The early reviews for Sense8 tended to be a little… mixed. But now that people have had time to digest the Wachowski siblings’ first television show, opinions are changing. Over at The New Yorker, Joshua Rothman effusively praises the sometimes-bizarre ensemble series for its humanity and ability to not get bogged down in the depressing mire that traps so much science fiction. “In its own, low-key way, therefore, Sense8 is a critique of sci-fi,” he writes. “It asks whether, in tying our dreams about human transformation to fantasies of technological development, we might be making an error. The show suggests another path to transcendence: each other.” Maybe binging a show isn’t always the way to go?
