Where to Stream:

Transparent

Both Netflix and Amazon have been fighting for supremacy in the world of original programming on streaming. While Netflix first burst into the Emmys with nominations for shows like House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black a few years back, Amazon is still the only streaming platform to take home a major award. Transparent won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy this year.
Which platform already has the edge at the 2015 Emmys? Let’s break it down.

At first glance, it looks like Netflix has Amazon severely beaten. All but one of Amazon’s nominations are for Transparent, while Netflix can boast nominations — by my bleary-eyed count — for nine different programs and two documentaries. However, Transparent has more nominations than any other comedy.
You could say that Netflix’s higher count of awards is a testament to its vast body of programming. Besides the hard-boiled detective drama Bosch, Amazon hasn’t released a drama yet. So, while they might not be able to compete with Netflix in terms of quantity of programming yet, Transparent is their trump card in terms of quality. Sure, House of Cards also has 11 nominations, but it’s up against fellow juggernauts Game of Thrones and Mad Men.

Not to be outdone, two other streaming services can boast nominations.Yahoo has a nomination for Community — in the Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Comedy Series or a Variety Program – and Acorn TV has one for Agatha Christie’s Poirot: Curtain, Poirot’s Las Case.
If this year’s Emmy nominations are any indication, then streaming is more than a fad; it’s a place to find truly inventive and fantastic television programming. Now the question is…can Hulu elbow into the conversation?
