Like Abbott and Costello and George and Gracie, Kenan and Kel were a comedic duo that defined a generation. The two child stars shot to fame on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy series All That and made the stoner children’s classic Goodburger together. However, as time went on, the two drifted apart. Kel’s career sputtered while Kenan made the leap to the major leagues with a long tenure on Saturday Night Live. Talks of a reunion had been in the ether for a while, but last night Jimmy Fallon brought Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell together once more in a “Goodburger” sketch on The Tonight Show.
The clip begins with Fallon reminiscing about working in a burger joint in the ’90s. Cut to: a flashback sequence where Fallon is working at Goodburger alongside Kel’s famous Ed. The duo serve various members of The Tonight Show posse until Kenan drops in as a “hangry” construction worker named Lester Oakes. It’s a silly sketch that relies heavily on audience nostalgia to work, but then, isn’t that why we love Kenan and Kel anyway? They were silly beyond belief and take us back to our youth.
