Get To Know Vimeo’s Upcoming Original Series ‘The Outs’

This morning, Vimeo announced its first-ever slate of original programming, which includes a short film from SNL‘s Aidy Bryant called Darby Forever and a standup special from RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Bianca Del Rio called Rolodex Of Hate Comedy Special: Live From Austin. Alongside these two specials, Vimeo on Demand will offer an original series — a long awaited second season of the popular webseries The Outs, which premiered online in 2012 and is co-created and directed by Decider’s own Downton Abbey recapper, Adam Goldman.

Starring Goldman, co-creator Sasha Winters (previously seen in the Decider-approved web series, Eat Our Feelings), and Hunter Canning, the show follows a pair of best friends, Mitchell and Oona, who navigate the somewhat bleak and disheartening dating scene in Brooklyn. It’s a sublimely shot, hilariously awkward series that paints a realistic portrait of young adulthood (the show premiered just a month before HBO’s hit Girls). Most importantly, it came at the first wave of the web series boom, which used the accessibility of the web to tell small stories on the smallest screens — but in a way that felt just as cinematic as anything you’d catch in your local indie theater. Critics praised The Outs for sparking the medium in a serious way (and its Chanukah special boasted a cameo from Alan Cumming).

Watch the first episode of The Outs below, and check out the rest of the series at theouts.com. The second season will premiere on Vimeo on Demand in 2016.
