EXCLUSIVE: Mayor Goldie Wilson and Principal Strickland Remember ‘Back To The Future’

As you probably have already heard, today is an auspicious day for film geeks everywhere. Today is the day that Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled forward to in time in Back To The Future Part II. The future Marty encountered was full of hover boards, crazy corporate sponsorship, a Trump-like Biff conquering everything, and the Cubs winning the World Series. While October 21, 2015 isn’t quite what filmmaker Robert Zemekis had in mind back in 1989, it’s still a day worth celebrating.

Last week Decider got to join in the fun with New York City retailer PiQ. The novelty chain — which boasts the biggest collection of Back To The Future merchandise in the Big Apple — tipped its hat to the big day with a “Welcome To The Future” event. In addition to featuring a flying Delorean, the store also had two iconic actors from the original film on hand. Donald Fullilove (Mayor “Goldie” Wilson) and James Tolkan (Principal Strickland) gave us a tour of PiQ’s digs last week, but today we got them to reminisce about their experiences in the film.

Fullilove explained why the film still resonates 30 years later: “It was a good film. It had a good story, it had a good script, and had some damn good actors!”

“All the planets had to be aligned for this movie to become what it has become,” added Tolkan.
