‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones’ Trailer: Crazy Sex, Tons Of Booze & Creepy Mind-Controlling Baddies

We’ve seen a number of cool teasers, but today the first official trailer for Marvel’s Jessica Jones debuted online. The series won’t debut on Netflix until November 20, but this is the most revealing look at our heroine, her main adversary, and her hot and heavy main squeeze Luke Cage (Mike Colter).

Marvel’s Jessica Jones is based on the Alias comics that debuted almost 15 years ago as a part of Marvel’s MAX line. It was meant to be the first R-rated comic from the family-friendly publishing house. It looks like the Netflix series isn’t shying away from its heroine’s dark and dirty past. Expect heavy drinking, foul language, and crazy “doggy-style” sex from Ms. Jones (Krysten Ritter).

However, the most revolutionary part of this new series looks to be its approach to storytelling in the superhero genre. Typically, heroes must face one big bad who is set on conquering the world or our titular hero is in pursuit of a “MacGuffin.” Often, the villain is a dark version of our protagonist. Marvel’s Jessica Jones, though, is taking a different track. Jones might have superhuman strength and fighting abilities, but she is helpless — as we all are — in the face of a man whose skill is mind-control. David Tennant plays the Purple Man (aka Kilgrave) and this trailer suggests that he’s bent on pushing people to hurt and kill themselves for his own amusements. So, it’s a little more intimate and far more creepy than some big alien force trying to get some fancy gems for his golden glove. (I kid. Thanos is scary, too.)

Marvel’s Jessica Jones debuts on Netflix on November 20.
