Having spent six years as a writer and performer on Saturday Night Live, David Spade has a pretty good idea what it takes to be a good host on the venerable sketch comedy show. That’s also why he should probably be trusted when he weighs in on who was worst, as he did on Tuesday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live. The comedian, who was promoting his new memoir Almost Interesting, was first asked to identify the show’s most overrated cast member during “Plead the Fifth” segment, a question he politely passed on, but he did name who was the worst person to host: None other than Steven Seagal, who hosted the show in April 1991. “He was a little tough,” Spade told Andy Cohen. “And he was actually tough and he was tough to work with. He was hard. He did not want to play along.” This isn’t the first time the action star has been labeled the worst host in the show’s history, Lorne Michaels said the same thing about him two seasons later.
