Woman Crush Wednesday: Mackenzie Davis Is Taking Over The World (And Space)

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s socially acceptable to very publicly crush on your favorite lady. This week, we’re head over heels for The Martian star Mackenzie Davis, who you’ve seen just about everywhere in the last couple of years or so. Not ringing a bell? That’s because, in Tilda Swinton-like fashion, Davis is a chameleon of sorts — weaving her way in and out of various genres and styles until someone points her out and you’re like, “Ah, now I know her.” So familiarize yourself with the model turned actress before you’re scratching your head watching [insert upcoming movie here] wondering where you’ve seen this girl before.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Mackenzie Davis

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: What’s interesting about Davis and her seamless ability to blend in across an eclectic mix of roles is that we still know she’s someone. OK, so she’s not exactly Jennifer Lawrence, but she doesn’t fall victim to Sienna Miller syndrome either (Honestly, I wouldn’t recognize Sienna Miller if I fell over her, but I know I’ve probably seen every movie she’s ever starred in.) Not the case with Davis, who’s not only discernible but commanding of the scenes she’s in, whether she’s playing a NASA engineer in The Martian or a love interest in That Awkward Moment.

WHERE YOU KNOW HER FROM: When she’s not starring in romantic dramedies Breathe In and What If, you can catch Davis as computer prodigy Cameron Howe in AMC’s period tech drama Halt and Catch Fire, which is coming back for a third season next summer.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER NEXT: Out in theaters Friday, October 30 is Freaks of Nature, a campy zom-com starring a massive ensemble of everyone from Bob Odenkirk to Joan Cusack and Vanessa Hudgens. Davis plays Petra Lane, an average teen living in a post-apocalyptic planet Earth where humans inexplicably get along with vampires and zombies. That is, until the aliens show up.
