Meet Queue: Tye Sheridan Has Survived Terrence Malick, ‘Mud’, And The ‘Apocalypse’

Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse might not have killed it at the Halloween box office this weekend, but it does herald the rise of Tye Sheridan. The young actor made his debut in Terrence Malick’s critically-acclaimed The Tree of Life and since then he’s only added more and more prestigious fare to his resumé. Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse is merely a sign that the precocious child actor is growing into a fine young action star. Look out for Sheridan to play the teen version of Cyclops in next summer’s X-Men: Age of Apocalypse.

If you want the lowdown on Tye Sheridan, we’ve compiled a streaming dossier for you. It’s kind of like a “meet cute” in a romantic comedy, but because it’s all streaming, we’re calling it your “meet queue.” So get ready to get psyched for Tye Sheridan…

The Tree of Life (2011)

Terrence Malick gave Tye Sheridan his first job in his sprawling epic, The Tree of Life. Sheridan was one of the finalists to play the younger version of Jack O’Brien, but lost out on the gig. Instead, he was asked to play the family’s youngest son, Steve. It was a smaller role, but gave Sheridan the chance to go toe-to-toe with Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain while he was still only a tween. [Where to Stream The Tree of Life]

Mud (2012)

Sheridan’s first meaty role was in Jeff Nichols’ beloved indie Mud. Sheridan played a 14-year-old boy named Ellis who gets caught up in the dangerous lifestyle of a fugitive named “Mud” (Matthew McConaughy). The gripping film is part thriller, part coming-of-age film. Sheridan wowed critics in the part and solidified himself as a young talent to watch. [Where to Stream Mud]

Joe (2013)

In 2013, Sheridan graduated from befriending a drifter to being one! Sheridan plays a 15-year-old kid on the lam named Gary in the film Joe. The movie follows Gary as he befriends a tree-remover with a violent temper named Joe (played by Nicolas Cage).[Where to Stream Joe]

The Forger (2014)

While most of Sheridan’s early work fell into the realm of “trendy indie flick about people trying to find themselves and get by in the South,” every actor has to brand out and pay their dues. The Forger was not a great hit or critical smash, but Sheridan continued to prove his worth. He’s one of the only teen actors out there who can keep up with the biggest stars and most sublime actors. Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse

You’ll have to wait until the spring to see how Sheridan acquits himself as a bona fide X-Man facing the “Apocalypse,” but you can hit up the cineplex RIGHT NOW and check his zombie-fighting game. Sheridan stars as Ben, a high school sophomore/scout whose unique skill set make him one of our only hopes in the battle against the undead.
