Watch ‘The Seeso Secret Society Initiation’ Series for Sneak Peeks of Dan Harmon’s ‘HarmonQuest’ and Amy Poehler’s ‘The UCB Show’

NBCUniversal’s new Seeso streaming service isn’t scheduled to debut until January, but the new comedy brand is already cranking up the buzz machine.

In a series of YouTube promos, comedians Dave Ahdoot and Ethan Fixell — who will have their own show on Seeso called Dave & Ethan: Lovemakers — are required to do some cool stuff and some weird stuff in a web series called The Seeso Secret Society Initiation. The first two episodes provide peeks into Seeso’s forthcoming The UCB Show and HarmonQuest.

(SeeSo = Secret Society … get it?)

The first episode is a promo for The UCB Show, which will feature sketches from the Upright Citizens Brigade. Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh, who founded the Upright Citizens Brigade in the 1990s, are the creators of the new series.

In the sketch, which was shot in the UCB Sunset Theatre in Hollywood where The UCB Show will be taped, Ahdoot and Fixell tidy the place up a bit. The UCB Show will include eight 30-minute episodes and will include emerging talent from UCB’s deep improv pool.

The second episode is a promo for HarmonQuest, a new show from Dan Harmon. In both Community and Rick and Morty, Harmon has worked out his bizarro, genre-hopping, meta sensibilities to trippy effect, and HarmonQuest looks to be much the same. In the promo, Harmon is a shadowy cult-leader — which you know isn’t much of a stretch if you’ve seen the Harmontown documentary — who owns Charlie Chaplain’s actual cane and knows how to use it.

Seeso described HarmonQuest in its announcement as “a comedic journey into the hilarious world of fantasy roleplaying with Dan Harmon and his Comedian Companions,” and the promo has a certain playing-Dungeons-and-Dragons-in-the-basement look about it. The HarmonQuest series will include 10 30-minute episodes.

Seeso announced its ambitious programming slate in mid-October. The lineup will include 19 original shows and one-hour stand-up specials from Matt Besser, Rory Scovel and Cameron Esposito. Seeso will also include content from NBCUniversal’s comedy catalog, including episodes of Parks and Recreation, and The Kids in the Hall and frequently updated clips from Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show.

Seeso will be $3.99 a month.
