During last night’s Republican debate in Las Vegas, Netflix’s House of Cards gave us a new candidate to root for (or more likely against): President Frank Underwood. The spot teased the show’s Season Four start date of March 4.
The announcement was made using a fake campaign commercial that ran during the debate, featuring playing children, hard-working employees, and the generic-sounding campaign promise that “It’s a new day in America.” However, instead of cutting to an image of Trump, Cruz, or Carson, the ad instead shows everyone’s favorite political mastermind, Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), hard at work. He then looks dead at the camera, promising “America, I’m only getting started.”

Frank Underwood even has a campaign poster, which was released on Twitter to promote the announcement spot:

The campaign spot encourages fans to visit FU2016.com, which may be a nicer site than actual candidate sites. It features progressive, forward-thinking blurbs from the man himself that all seem to say nothing in several paragraphs. There are also authentic-looking news updates about Underwood’s campaign trail. Honestly, this fake campaign may be the smartest and highest form of political satire we’ve seen all year, which is completely driven by how cynical, manipulative, and bad we know Frank Underwood to be. However, my favorite part of the site is the customizable FU section:

Season Three ended with President Underwood vying for reelection while his marriage with the Claire (Robin Wright) was on the rocks. It’s going to be extra interesting to watch all of the backhanded political wheeling and dealing House of Cards is known for during an actual election year. Hats off to you, Netflix. We’re watching.
