Netflix is really cranking out those sizzle reels today. Hot on the heels of the trailer for The Get Down comes the much-anticipated first look at their British royals series The Crown. Written by Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) and directed by Stephen Daldry (The Hours; Billy Elliott), it’s a historical drama about the early rise to power of Queen Elizabeth II and her marriage to Prince Philip Mountbatten.

Elizabeth will be played by Claire Foy, who enjoyed some spectacular reviews for playing Anne Boleyn in Wolf Hall, and The Crown seems like it might be an even bigger and better showcase for her talents. The trailer promises a complicated look at Elizabeth, and how the changing nature of the British monarchy as well as the clash between her role as queen and as wife shaped her early reign.

The cast is a typically talented one (all the British historical dramas get the best casts), including Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith as Philip, John Lithgow as Winston Churchill, and Jared Harris as King George VI. Also look out for Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, who appears to be written with a bit of jealous-sister to her, which should be fun.
