Eight films will vie for the title of Best Picture, after today’s Academy Award nominations, with last year’s big winner Alejandro G. Iñarritu’s new film The Revenant leading the pack with 12 nominations. Closing in on that film in second place is Mad Max:Fury Road, which got an astounding 10 nominations, virtually sweeping the tech categories in addition to nominations in Best Picture and Best Director for George Miller.

The Martian, once rumored to be a Best Picture frontrunner, did get seven nominations including one of the eight Best Picture slots, but its director, Ridley Scott, was left out of the Best Director race in favor of a surprise nomination for Room‘s Lenny Abrahamson. Other Best Picture nominees: Spotlight (6 nominations), Bridge of Spies (6 nominations), The Big Short (5 nominations), Room (4 nominations), and Brooklyn (3 nominations).

As for who didn’t make it? Carol was expected to snag Best Picture and Best Director nominations but was left out in the cold. Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight got nominations for Supporting Actress (Jennifer Jason Leigh), Cinematography, and Score, but nothing else. Aaron Sorkin, after winning Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes on Sunday, was shut out of the Adapted Screenplay category, leaving Steve Jobs with only Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet’s nominations.

Netflix, which was expected to contend with its first narrative feature film, saw Beasts of No Nation shut out entirely, with Idris Elba missing out on Best Supporting Actor most prominently. The good news for Netflix came in the Best Documentary Feature category, where they scored nominations for both What Happened, Miss Simone? and Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom.

The biggest winner among non-Best Picture nominees were Carol with six nominations and  Star Wars: The Force Awakens with 5.

Oh, and we were right about The 100-Year-Old-Man and Best Makeup.
