The Arrowverse‘s latest super duper superhero series DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premieres tonight. You know who DC’s Legends of Tomorrow are, right? I mean, duh! They’re only the Legends of Tomorrow! They, um, they’re the ones who are, uh, legends, but not of today. They’re just legends tomorrow like you know…oh golly, who are the Legends of Tomorrow?

Calm down. It’s okay if you don’t know who these new heroes are. After all DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is the brainchild of television producers. The CW’s head honcho Mark Pedowitz called uber-producer Greg Berlanti and his Arrowverse team with the idea of doing a team-up show that featured a group of heroes taking on a band of villains. Berlanti and crew fired back with the concept of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Essentially, a time master from the future named Rip Hunter needs help taking on an immortal evil. So he hops in his time machine, travels to our time, and convinces a bunch of frustrated and lost JV squad heroes to join him in his fight. So it’s a basically a super hero team that travels through time. Cool right? And it’s a completely original idea so you can’t go digging through comic books for the source material.

That being said, all of the characters on the show are tried and true DC comics characters and most of them have already appeared on Arrow or The Flash. If you’ve never seen either of those shows, you don’t need to panic. Here’s your guide to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow:

Ray Palmer aka “The Atom” (played by Brandon Routh)

What’s His Deal? He’s a billionaire scientist who built a super suit that helps him shrink. His one dream is to be a real, bonafide hero like Arrow or the Flash. He’s ironically played by that guy who was Superman in that one movie with Kate Bosworth.

Sara Lance aka “White Canary” (played by Caity Lotz)

What’s Her Deal? Well, it’s kind of a long, complicated story. She started off as Oliver “Arrow” Queen’s girlfriend and was presumed dead when his ship the Queen’s Gambit sunk. Then she was recruited by the League of Assassins to be a badass named the Canary. After she returned to Starling City to stir things up, she teamed up with Oliver, then returned to the League, then was killed. Eventually, she was resurrected by the Lazarus Pit. Now, she’s just trying to rebuild her life outside of the shadows, hence why she’s rebranding herself as the “White Canary.”

Rip Hunter aka “Rip Hunter” (played by Arthur Darvill)

What’s His Deal? He’s a Time Master from the future who enlists the aid of the other “Legends” to travel throughout history in an attempt to defeat Vandal Savage. We would tell you more, but then we’d be spoiling you!

Leonard Snart aka “Captain Cold” (played by Wentworth Miller)

What’s His Deal? He’s a thief who wields a cryonic gun. It freezes things. Hence why he’s called Captain Cold. He’s quite selfish, but works with his best friend Heat Wave…

Mick Rory aka “Heat Wave” (played by Dominic Purcell)

What’s His Deal? He’s Captain Cold’s best friend. Together the two take on heists and commit various crimes. Heat Wave is an arsonist and carries a heat gun. Do you get why he’s called “Heat Wave” now?

Professor Martin Stein aka “Firestorm” (played by Victor Garber)

What’s His Deal? He’s an uppity professor and brilliant nuclear physicist who makes one half of “Firestorm.” Who makes the other half?

Jefferson “Jax” Jackson aka “Firestorm” (played by Franz Drameh)

What’s His Deal? He’s the other half of Firestorm. So, basically, Jax was a teen sports star whose dreams were shattered by an injury. He and Professor Stein merge and become one and then they harness the power of Firestorm. It’s kind of confusing, right? (I mean, I’m confused by it.)

Kendra Saunders aka “Chay-Ara” aka “Hawkgirl” (played by Ciara Renée)

What’s Her Deal? Centuries ago, Chay-Ara was an Egyptian priestess. She and her lover Khufu were murdered by a jealous admirer named Hath-Set. However, because he used a magical dagger, the two lovers — and Hath-Set — are destined to be reincarnated again and again. Usually, the reincarnations meet and relive the fates of the past. Kendra is a barrista struggling with the realization that she’s lived all these past lives. The catch? She can’t really remember them. She does accept that she’s Hawkgirl, though, because she has mystical powers and wings grow out of her back.

Carter Hall aka “Khufu” aka “Hawkman” (played by Falk Hentschel)

What’s His Deal? He’s the latest reincarnation of Khufu. Unlike Kendra, Carter can remember all their past lives and romances. This leads to awkwardness because he is totally down to be a couple again and she’s not convinced they belong together in this lifetime.

Vandal Savage aka “Hath-Set” (played by Casper Crump)

What’s His Deal? He was the creeper who killed Hawkman and Hawkgirl’s original selves back in ancient Egypt. The twist is that he is also doomed to be reincarnated over the centuries. Every time he comes back, he is dead set on conquering the world and killing Hawkman (and/or Hawkgirl). He takes over the world in the future, which spurs the whole series into action.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premieres at 8 PM ET on The CW (and cord-cutters can catch it on Hulu tomorrow).
