‘Game Of Thrones’ Melisandre Crashes Best Bud Seth Meyers’ Baby Shower

After what she did to Shireen Baratheon last season on Game of Thrones, Melisandre (Carice Van Houten) is probably the last person you’d want at a baby shower. Nevertheless, she awkwardly crashed Seth Meyers and his wife Alexi’s shower in a sketch on last night’s Late Night With Seth Meyers.

Baby showers are usually filled with diaper pyramids and cute, fluffy animals, so Melisandre’s grim and dramatic worldview clearly didn’t jive with the festivities. Nevertheless, she did try. She gave the Meyers baby a Valyrian steel dagger rattle! Melisandre isn’t the first Game of Thrones character to crash an normal event on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Last year, Kit Harington filmed a sketch where he played Jon Snow at a dinner party.

However, there is a fun real life twist to the sketch: Carice Van Houten, the actress who plays Melisandre, is a long-time friend of Meyers. The two met and became buds as young performers slumming it in Amsterdam. Van Houten was an up-and-coming Dutch actress and Meyers was an American member of the city’s Boom! Chicago improv troupe. In fact, Van Houten credits Meyers with helping her land the part on Game of Thrones. She wasn’t sure if she should take the role, but reached out to her “nerdy” friend to find out if the series was legit.
