Where To Stream Tonight’s All-Star David Bowie Tribute Concert

A wide-ranging group of all-star musicians will perform the second night of a tribute event, “The Music of David Bowie,” tonight (April 1) — and you can catch the concert streaming live online! Artists scheduled to appear at Radio City Music Hall in New York include Michael Stipe, Mumford & Sons, Pixies, Blondie, Perry Farrell, J Mascis, Esperanza Spalding, Rickie Lee Jones, The Polyphonic Spree, Jakob Dylan, and more.

City Winery, Melodic Caring Project, and ammado have teamed up along with promotional sponsor Skype to make the concert available online at http://musicofdavidbowie.com/. Organizers are requesting a charitable donation to stream, with 100% of proceeds going to nine organizations focused on music education and therapy. The website suggests a minimum donation of $5 and says the average amount is currently $18. Donors will receive a link before the event begins, which will also be posted on the website.

The event was planned months before Bowie’s death on January 11 as part of “The Music Of” series, presented by City Winery’s Michael Dorf and normally held at Carnegie Hall. Tickets had gone on sale only hours before Bowie passed away, after which the concert quickly shifted to a memorial celebration. Demand from artists to perform and from the public for tickets became so strong that Dorf added a second evening with a different, but overlapping, line-up.

The first concert was held last night at Carnegie Hall. The set list included Cyndi Lauper’s “Suffragette City,” Blondie’s “Star Man,” Michael Stipe’s “Ashes to Ashes,” Jakob Dylan’s “Heroes,” Cat Power’s “Five Years,” Perry Farrell’s “Rebel Rebel,” The Flaming Lips’ “Life on Mars,” J Mascis and Sean Lennon’s “Quicksand,” Rickie Lee Jones’ “All the Young Dudes,” and many more.

Leading up to the shows, Michael Stipe performed “The Man Who Sold the World” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Tuesday night, in a stripped-down version featuring only piano.
