Final Shots: Frank Zappa Project Is Now The Highest-Grossing Documentary In Kickstarter History

Frank Zappa must have some of the most dedicated fans in music history. A Kickstarter for a documentary based on the departed rock icon’s life has just surpassed every other publicly-funded project in the website’s history. According to Deadline, the film, which will be directed by Alex Winter (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure) set a funding goal of $500K and has nearly doubled that with $880K and counting from only 6,100 backers. Previously, a project launched by Bill Nye “The Science Guy” had claimed the highest-grossing title with $859K in funds with nearly three times the amount of backers. The new champion, the documentary to be titled Who The F*@% Is Frank Zappa, was greenlit by the Zappa family who consequently gave Winter full access to the artist’s vault. Zappa died in 1993 from cancer, but thanks to the generous contributors, his legacy will continue to live on.
