When Outlander debuted in the fall of 2014, we got to watch as Claire Beauchamp Randall met and slowly fell for James Fraser. There’s was a steamy, slow-burning courtship. Their connection was hindered by the fact that he was an 18th century virgin highlander and she was a feminist with a husband still living in the 1940s. In the end, they got it together, got married, and gave us one of the sexiest unions ever caught onscreen.

We’ve seen Jamie and Claire conquer the slow burn and enjoy the steaming hot honeymoon, but how will they keep the spark going in season two? Especially after the harrowing events of season one? We asked stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan how they planned to pull it off.

“You know, they’re two people going through very private journeys in the beginning of the season,” said Balfe, “and they are somewhat estranged from each other in a way.”

Heughan added that the two characters are still finding common ground in this trying time for them. “The one way they do reconnect is the unborn child – it’s over that,” said Heughan.

Outlander returns to Starz with an all new episode tonight at 9 PM ET. Click here for all things Outlander.
