First Look: Crackle’s Gritty New Drama ‘StartUp’ Looks Like A Massive Step Up

Crackle may boast some of the most viewers of any major streaming platform, but they haven’t exactly found a way to elbow into the originals conversation. StartUp could change all that.

StartUp follows what happens when some tech entrepreneurs who get caught up in an international mess when they invest dirty money into a cyber currency start up. The first trailer for the series was unveiled at Crackle’s Upfront presentation this morning and promises crime, moral quandaries, and more women stripping down in exotic locales than you could ask for.

The gritty drama stars Martin Freeman, Adam Brody, Edi Gathegi, and Otmara Marrero. That collection of talent speaks highly of the project. Freeman’s television pedigree alone includes lead roles on Sherlock, Fargo, and the original U.K. version of The Office. This early look at footage looks a cut above what Crackle has produced in the past. Could StartUp be the network’s House of Cards? Crackle has produced original drama series before, but it’s best known for its comedy and action film library (and Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee).

StartUp will debut on Crackle in the fall with 10 hour-long episodes. For more on all things Crackle, click here.
