Crackle Announces Original Series Based On ‘Snatch,’ Original VR Content & More At Upfronts!

Today Crackle held their Upfront presentation in New York City. What are “Upfronts” you may ask? Well, it’s a name for a kind of fancy presentation that major television networks put on for advertisers. Naturally, most of the talk at today’s event focused on what Crackle’s programming and unique “Break-Free” advertising campaigns could do for the Don Drapers of the world, but there was also some intriguing news for the average streaming Joe.

In addition to hyping season two of The Art of More and debuting the very intriguing trailer for its upcoming original series StartUp, Crackle also announced that they had greenlit a television version of Snatch. This was accompanied by a (rather confusing) sizzle reel full of footage from the original Guy Ritchie film. FX’s Fargo was cited as inspiration, and though now showrunners or cast members are attached, Crackle executives promised it would be like “Snatch: The Next Generation.”

Crackle also touted the return of originals like Sports Jeopardy! and SuperMansion. Jerry Seinfeld appeared in a clip to announce that season eight of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee will feature appearances by Judd Apatow, Lorne Michales, Margaret Cho, John Oliver, J.B. Smoove, and Jim Gaffigan. Crackle is also producing a sequel to its original video game-turned-zombie flick Dead Rising called Dead Rising: Endgame.

Crackle is also busting down boundaries on streaming. In addition to launching on Comcast, the streaming platform is getting into the VR game. The network promised original VR advertising content and special VR-only “experiences.” The first of these? A special episode of SuperMansion available only on VR.
