Watch Bruce Springsteen’s Majestic Cover Of Prince’s “Purple Rain” At The Barclays Center Tonight

The world is still reeling from the loss of Prince on Thursday, but tonight we found ourselves a silver purple lining on our collective cloud of grief.

Bruce Springsteen is in the middle of an epic, barnstorming tour in which he’s performing his classic 1980 double album The River in full. He’s been opening all of his shows with the recently unearthed “Meet Me In The City,” an outtake from The River, but tonight he made an exception to pay tribute to the Purple One. Yes, that’s right, Bruce Springsteen, wearing a purple scarf, and the E-Street Band performed a majestic version of “Purple Rain” bathed in purple lights. Don’t get too much FOMO just yet, though, because a few kind souls were awesome enough to record the cover in full and immediately post it to the Internet.

Here’s a version from someone in the front row:

Here’s an abbreviated shot of The Boss from behind:

And friend of Decider Mike Ryan smartly live broadcasted “Purple Rain” on the social media app Periscope.

The untimely loss of Prince still smarts, no doubt, but heartfelt tributes like Bruce Springsteen’s tonight at the Barclays Center make things feel just a little bit better, wouldn’t you agree? (And we would be remiss if we didn’t give a special shout out to Nils Lofgren for the rippin’ guitar solo.)
