Jeremy gets a new girlfriend, Morgan gets cyber-bullied, and Mindy gets a bearclaw (well, two of them) in a great episode of The Mindy Project.
This episode finds Mindy (Mindy Kaling) doing what Mindy does best: being Mindy. Our friends at Shulman and Associates are not pleased with the construction noise coming from upstairs, and Jeremy’s (Ed Weeks) even less pleased when he realizes who’s behind it. Returning to Mindy is Cristin Millioti in her best role since she was on 30 Rock (Season 5, Episode 16: “TGS Hates Women”), as Whitney, Jeremy’s ex and Mindy’s new “money guy.” Mindy brings a shoebox of receipts to Whitney, but not before running into her glass wall, demonstrating Mindy’s A+ physical comedy skills.

Whitney is a former addict who chains herself to her desk to resist hitting the town with her coworkers, but agrees to take on Mindy’s financial fiasco in exchange for her friendship. Mindy agrees, blowing off Jody (Garret Dillahunt) who asked her to go with him to get a grandfather clock. Really, bro? We’ve all made up some dumb excuses to try to hang out with people we have a crush on, but come on. Mindy lies and says she’s on a date, which gets Jody all jealous.

The pairing of Mindy and Jody still seems a bit unbelievable, but not as much as Jeremy and his new boo, Juliet. The office can’t fathom that the former British playboy would ever speak to a woman more than a minute older than him…and they were right. Turns out Jeremy was paying her (ew) in order to get his reputation back with other women (double ew) and it works (triple ew). What happened to poor Jeremy?

Meanwhile, Mindy’s really just part of a fun montage where Whitney is showing up at Mindy’s apartment, ready to turn up in the form of Connect Four, paintball and even drones. Oh, and a little light cyber-bullying of Morgan, of course. Mindy breaks down her new friendship with Whitney as only she can, stating, “She’s addicted to hanging out with me, which like, who isn’t?” Unfortunately, Mindy also feels responsible to stop Whitney from making any poor choices at McBarfigans, which, let’s just stop and appreciate that name for a moment.
Whitney is fine, just trying to get addicted to sodoku, but it’s Mindy who gets really real. You’ll remember back in season 3, episode 3, “Crimes & Misdemeanors & Ex-BFs” Mindy’s money matters were at hand as well, and she had to turn to Cliff (Glen Howerton) for help. She’s nothing if not consistent, that Mindy. But this time, she opens up about having to manage money as a single mom and how stressful that can be. Treat yourself to the bearclaw(s), Mindy. You deserve them.

She also deserves a real man, and it seems that Jody is still gunning to be that guy. After an eye-opening run-in with Juliet on the subway, he pens a heartfelt note to Mindy, apologizing for calling her life a mess, even though he believes it is, and asking her out on a proper date. He drops the letter in the mail before finding out the truth about Jeremy and Juliet, immediately regretting his decision, but for once, Morgan actually sent out the mail. Your feelings are out there, dude!
Will Mindy get the note? Will she be into it? Will Mody be their couple name? Will he support her bearclaw budget? If he can’t appreciate her pastries, then he can’t appreciate her at all.
