Final Shots: Hulu Orders Prehistoric Caveman Drama Series ‘Dawn’

Hulu plans to kick it back to the prehistoric age with their latest order for a new drama pilot titled Dawn. Brought to you by Hank Steinberg (Without A Trace) and Black Hawk Down writer Ken Nolan, the new series will focus on the interaction between a tribe of Neanderthals and the homo sapiens they encounter.

According to Deadline, Fola Evans-Akingbola (Game of Thrones), Temuera Morrison, Carl Shaaban, and Matthew Hopkinson are all in final negotiations to star in the series. The pilot will track the historically genocidal relationship between the two species. MGM TV, who is also responsible for the celebrated History series Vikings, will co-produce the pilot. Filming will begin on May 9th in Ireland.

Lost writer Elizabeth Sarnoff and Patrick Macmanus (Netflix’s Marco Polo) will write and executive produce the new Darkover series for Amazon Prime Video. Based on Marion Zimmer Bradley’s book series, the sci-fi fantasy TV adaptation will track a group of colonists and their distant planetary civilization — 2,000 years after its development. Netflix’s very first 100% European series Marseille was reportedly not as well received in France as one would expect. French fans and critics alike have been voicing their opinions on the Gerard Depardieu-starring series, one critic even going as far as to say it’s “undoubtedly [the platform’s] first in-house dud.” [Variety]

As Jeremy Clarkson gears up to star in Prime Video’s yet-to-be-titled reboot of Top Gear, the car aficionado made a few startling admissions yesterday. Not only will he supposedly still be getting paid for the other new season of Top Gear that he’s not even in, but he also hadn’t signed up for an Amazon account of his own until recently. Time Inc. has announced plans to launch their very own OTT video streaming service. Launching this fall, the free advertiser-supported platform promises its own celebrity, pop culture, lifestyle and human interest-based original series, according to a press release.
