Afternoon Delight: Have the Last Laugh at ‘Last Two People on Earth’

What better way to prepare for the fast-approaching weekend than by indulging in the some of the Internet’s most well-done web content? Take advantage of your lunch break and treat yourself to Afternoon Delight, Decider’s carefully curated picks of the best short-form content available on the world wide web. This week we’re spotlighting Last Two People On Earth, a post-apocalyptic web series from Brinkman over at Upright Citizens Brigade you might have missed when it was first shared on YouTube back in 2014. It’s no surprise that this New York City-based team of writers, actors, and directors consistently deliver creative comedic content, and Last Two People on Earth is no exception.

Brinkman, the team that previously gifted us with Pact, the darkly funny web series following the outcome of a silly childhood suicide pact, strikes success again with their second web series. Directed by Denis Cardineau & Sean Weiner and written by Dru Johnston, Mary Lordes, Jason Shebiro, and Laura Willcox, this absurdly funny six-episode series is as well-shot as it is performed. The uncomfortable, uproarious chemistry between the two leads, Dru Johnston and Chet Siegel, gives the series its heart, and the sharp editing and visual style make it all the more enjoyable to watch.

“A biological attack has devastated the globe. Peter and Dana are the only known survivors… and they’re the worst.” When CDC Security Guard Peter (Johnston) and Dana (Siegel) wind up in a bunker built for 30 to escape the lethal East Nile Virus and lock out the scientists with them, they wind up with a lot more than they bargained for. With nothing to eat but 800,000 cans of beans and a lot of important things to consider (like how to continue the human race or the significance of baseball in society as a whole), it’s soon revealed that this dysfunctional duo may in fact have been somewhat responsible for the spread of East Nile Virus due to their inadvertently aiding the biological terrorist who stole it from the CDC. Life, love, and the terrifying treatment of women by geeks and gamers are just a few of the topics explored over the course of this seriously funny six episode series.

Watch the first episode below, and check out the rest of the series (as well as a ton of other hilarious content) at UCB’s YouTube channel or on Vimeo.
